Make a debt collector prove the debt before you pay

Get a completed dispute and request for verification that you send to a debt collector. If you send it within 30 days of their validation notice, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires them to stop collecting until they mail you verification.

The collector's first letter (the validation notice) and the date you got it
The collector's mailing address. Use the dispute address on the notice if there is one.
