Get a bank fee refunded with a 30-second script

The problem: Banks charge one-off fees (overdraft, wire, late, ATM) that they'll often reverse if you just ask.

What someone got: A writer read a short ChatGPT script to his bank and says his $50 wire-transfer fee was refunded on the spot, in under five minutes. (Motley Fool Money via Madam Money, self-reported)

The prompt:

Paste into any free AI chatbot
I was charged a $[AMOUNT] [overdraft/late/wire/ATM] fee on [DATE]. I've been a customer for [N] years and this is the first time. Write a friendly 3–4 sentence phone script asking for a one-time courtesy refund, plus one polite line if they say no.

Your 2-minute steps:

  1. Find the fee and date in your banking app.
  2. Paste the prompt into a free AI chatbot and fill in the brackets.
  3. Call (or use secure chat) and read the script. If the first person says no, politely ask for a supervisor.

Waivers are a courtesy, not a right, and work best once in a while.
